Paint a vision of success in education?
The Four C’s vs. the Four C’s (with rigor) 1) Collaboration 2) Community 3) Creativity 4) Critical Thinking > Hyper focused on vs. pedagogy and how the two can merge and be more horizontal > Become familiar with PBL (like a bee in a hive to communicate and translate … heart rate training and metabolism) > Defeat fear … learners have that in common. 1) Hustle 2) Skill 3) Relationships 4) Character
Passion driven projects (without the drive of a grades) lead with action and respond with a pulse response … access with a “physical” … health of question / project / cycle / process > No light … no shadow (Who will I follow? Who will follow me?) > 1) Clarifying thinking and understanding 2) Challenging assumptions 3) Examining evidence and rationale 4) Considering alternative perspectives 5) Considering implications and consequences 6) Meta questions > Allowing imminent space for (this) to happen
Design thinking > Empathy … Ideation … Definition … Prototyping … Testing > Empathy from the community at large (center out and watch for opportunities to unzip and zip back up … be vulnerable) > Observe … Interact … Ask … Who … What … Be in the same space … Build relationships
“Kan” VISUAL “Ban” CARD > (Japanese) Visual Card > To Do / Doing / Done > Safety in the struggle > Risk in the questions > Healing in the process > Hope in the journey [Production line vs. creative thought]
SMART Goals > 1) Be specific [What / Where / Which] 2) Measure it [What criteria] 3) Is achievable [Strengths and weaknesses] 4) Be realistic [“Like” a challenge / Understand limitations] 5) Time bound [Time frame / Time scale] > Positionally vs. Influence > GIVE what you cannot keep / GAIN what you cannot lose > Economy of giving … GIVE to GET vs GIVE to be RESPONSIBLE (for the gift)
Student experience (separate from REAL LIFE) or creating (REAL LIFE) > Chair … physics … aesthetics … faith in holding up / faith in being (upheld) > Creativity and the uncomfortable clutter
The energy that freedom produces sometimes starts with a near death experience [recovering produces resilience / hyper-focus / behind bars and the influence continues] > Growth in a welcoming space to expand is challenging due to the pace and the many windows of opportunity and what you see (outside) vs. what there is to experience (inside) > Feel the fear and do it anyway
Screen time (NO) > Instead screen time (HOW) > Students (CAN) teach > Keep moving forward (WITH) them to challenge (MY) learning? [CONTROL] > WE NEED TO GET OFF THE GRID … not to fix the problem … BUT TO START OVER … be the student … FIXING IS NOT ENOUGH … build a new plane
